Commemoration ceremony in honor of Joseph Guyton (First American killed on German soil in WWI) on Memorial Day May 28th

About The Event
The city of Evart will be holding a commemoration ceremony in honor of Joseph Guyton (First American killed on German soil in WWI) on Memorial Day May 28th.
The ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM at Guyton Park in Evart. Representative Jason Wentworth will deliver a commemoration speech followed by a parade down Main Street to the Guyton Memorial Bridge on US 10, where a wreath will be tossed into the Muskegon River. The ceremony will then move to Joseph Guyton’s gravesite at Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart for a brief historical background and ceremonial 21 Gun Salute by the honor guard of the local veterans organizations. Immediately following this ceremony the Evart Area Historical Society will host refreshments and a cemetery walk around the historical section of Forest Hill Cemetery highlighting the life of Joseph Guyton as well as those of other prominent Evart residents laid to rest there.
Memorial Day Parade
Hosted by Evart VFW Post #7979 the ceremony starts with a service at Evart’s Guyton Park, on the corner of Main Street and 5th Street. The service involves The High School Band, a message, and a 21-gun salute. The ceremony will continue with a parade down Main Street to the US 10 Bridge, where a wreath will be placed into the river. The procession will continue to Forest Hill Cemetery and conclude at the VFW Post #7979.
