Elmwood Cemetery to host New Brunswick and World War I Walking Tour, a World War I Centennial Commemoration Event

The United States entered World War I in April,1917 when President Woodrow Wilson requested Congress to declare war on Germany. On April 6, 1917, Congress declared war on Germany and the US officially entered the Great War, later to be known as World War I. Men joined the armed forces, women entered nursing to serve the military and citizens and industry worked together, united as a community, to support the war effort.

On Saturday, April 8, 2017 Elmwood Cemetery will host a walking tour, New Brunswick and World War 1, to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War 1. The war lasted just over one year but transformed our citizens, the local community, the state of New Jersey and our country. The tour stops at ten gravesites where you will learn how these citizens of New Brunswick, NJ served our country in a time of great need on the battlefield and on the home front.

The tour, New Brunswick and World War 1, will commence at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday April 8, 2017 in front of the Elmwood Cemetery office.
