About The Event

Occurring during the First World War, the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, known as the "Spanish Flu," was one of the most severe outbreaks of the 20th Century. Educator Jennifer Harmsen will examine the impact of the pandemic on New Jersey and the response by the local communities. 

Jennifer Harmsen has over 25 years of experience teaching history. She earned a master's degree in education from Rutgers University and a bachelor's degree in communications from Northwestern University. Subsequently, she acquired masters' degrees in history and educational leadership. She is the author of the paper, Death Unspoken: The Impact of the 1918 Influenza Pandemic in New Jersey.
