 rth Jersey History and Genealogy Center presents <em>Called to Serve: Morri
 stown and Morris Township and World War I</em>. The exhibit will be on disp
 lay from April 5, 2017 through August 14 2017 in the library’s second floor
  Kirby Gallery.</p><p>In honor of the 100th Anniversary of World War I, The
  North Jersey History and Genealogy Center presents an exhibit from our lib
 rary’s collections.</p><p>On April 6, 1917, the United States formally ente
 red World War I by declaring war on Germany.</p><p>German U-Boat attacks ag
 ainst unarmed vessels carrying American citizens and evidence of a plot to 
 ally with Mexico against the United States rendered American neutrality uns
 ustainable.</p><p>By the summer of 1917, communities around the country had
  mobilized human and financial resources in support of the Allied war effor
 t.</p><p>The photos and stories told in newspaper headlines, obituaries, ep
 hemera and letters to provide a glimpse into the extraordinary efforts of o
 ne such community. A pilot’s diary and his family’s letters, correspondence
  of fire fighters to their friends back at the fire station, a letter of a 
 mother who lost her son, and first hand battle descriptions by African Amer
 ican soldiers reveal the personal and human side of a community that was fo
 rever affected by the war.</p>
