DESCRIPTION:<p>The Hoboken Historical Museum opens a new exhibit that focuses on how th
 e city and its residents were transformed after the United States entered W
 orld War I. "World War I Centennial: Heaven, Hell or Hoboken," which runs t
 hrough December 23, will feature silent films of soldiers at the Hoboken po
 rt. It will also show government posters meant to promote the local draft r
 egistration and urge people at home to buy war bonds, conserve resources an
 d help with the war effort.</p><p>During that time, Hoboken became the main
  port for the U.S. Expeditionary Forces headed to Europe.</p><p>In addition
 , personal photographs, letters, uniforms and commemorative items will also
  be on display to show how the people of Hoboken were connected to the war.
  Some of those featured include Mrs. Frank R. Markey, who worked with the R
 ed Cross assisting soldiers, and Peter G. Spinetto, who sent postcards from
  France to his family in Hoboken.&nbsp;</p><p>There will also be a 10-part 
 lecture and tour series taking place during the exhibition's run. This seri
 es will start August 27, 2017 at 4 p.m., with a program titled "From Here t
 o Over There: The WWI Legacy of Fort Dix, NJ."</p><p>The Hoboken Historical
  Museum is open Tuesdays to Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m.; Fridays from 1 to 5
  p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.; free opening reception Su
 nday, August 6, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m.</p>
