"This vintage art deco memorial is located in McNair City Park in Verndale, MN. The memorial is a bronze marker flanked by two vintage and art deco type lanterns. The memorial is dated April 6, 1917 and November 18, 1918. It lists all of the men from the Verndale area that served in World War I. There is also some artwork, flags, soldiers etc depicted on the bronze marker. This is a very nice memorial and very vintage."

This memorial is erected and dedicated to those residents of Versailles who answered the call of our country in the World War. 1917-1919

Veteran's Memorial Pillars

The park was dedicated on November 11, 1926, after the Grand Rapids Council of the American Legion and public contribution funded memorial pillars in honor of WWI vets. In 1945, a citizens group petitioned for a WWII veterans memorial, and coupled with interest for honoring those who served in the Korean War, funds were secured for the addition of five granite pillars to the park. In 1975, two more pillars were added to honor Vietnam veterans.

Names of those who died in WWI appear on eight bronze bronze plaques placed on the sides of the granite pillars. Flowers commemorating their sacrifice are place at the base of both monuments. The plaque reads, "ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS OF GRAND RAPIDS WITH FUNDS VOLUNTARILY SUBSCRIBED THEREFORE AND DEDICATED NOVEMBER 11, 1926 TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF GRAND RAPIDS WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WAR. The smaller monument visible between the two pillars is a bust of Thomas Gilbert.

Veterans Park recognizes the service and sacrifice of all veterans of the United States and those that paid the ultimate price for the freedom we all share. The Veterans Park History Path encircles the Memorial Wall, the flags and Star Plaza and features the historical moments of military conflict intertwined with the veteran history of North St. Paul, Minnesota.

Podiums are located around the path in a chronological sequence that mirrors the history of North St. Paul, Minnesota. Factual data of each conflict period are scribed upon the black granite face of each podium. Viewers may then understand the price paid by those who defend our nation and liberties.

This U-shaped memorial- constructed of cinder block, tile, granite and sandstone, has mosaic paintings commemorating WWI. WWII, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. It was dedicated on July 4, 1988, and was a joint effort among the city, VFW Post 2146, the American legion, the Disabled American Veterans, and their auxil¬iaries.

This is an octagonal granite column attached to which is a bronze relief plaque with an image of a soldier and an allegorical Co­lumbia figure. She is dressed in a full-length gown and cape, and holds a sword and a laurel branch, which she offers to the soldier. On the other side of the column is a relief of a shield circled by the fo­liage. It was sculpted by C.W. Angell (1887-1963) and dedicated on May 30, 1932, to honor the veterans of all wars.

Harry Marinsky sculpted this group of bronze abstract, helmeted military figures, two men and two women, ascending a flight of loosely spiraled, broken white granite steps.  The highest one holds an American flag and others have their arms raised with fingers spread, reaching.  This memorial was dedicated on May 30, 1966 to honor veterans of all American wars.  At the time, it was the largest (19 feet tall) bronze monument in CT.

This monument consists of a flag pole set in a stone plinth in front of Saddle River's municipal building.  The base of a quarry-faced stone plinth surmounted by a concrete slab containing a center hole for the flagpole. 

A bronze plaque on the front contains an honor role recognizing local residents who served in both world wars & Korea.  The plaque is decorated with an eagle under the curved top.

This life-size bronze figure, prone and wrapped in a tarpaulin, was sculpted by A. Thomas Schomberg and dedicated to war veterans on Memorial Day 1986.  The figure lies atop an 11-ft. tall rectangular platform, inspired by a Plains Indian custom of placing their dead on a high scaffold in presentation to the spiritual world.  This memorial was a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Kane.

This is a bronze bas-relief, sculpted by Clydetta Fulmer, a little over 4-ft. tall, mounted on a 10-ft. tall freestanding limestone wall.  Dedicated in 1992, it was commissioned to honor all who have served in wars involving the United States.  It depicts a man and a woman walking and supporting an injured man between them. All are wearing combat fatigues.  

The Veterans Memorial Auditorium in New England was designed by the Ritterbush Brothers in the Art Deco style. The building was designed to serve the community with meeting rooms (one served as the city library), a kitchen, a large dining room, a dance hall, and stage. Funds for constructing the building came from the town, Hettinger County, and from the Public Works Administration. The Hettinger County Herald stated 6000 people came to the dedication in 1936

"This reinforced concrete river bridge, thought to be the first in Alabama, was erected over Pea River in 1920-21 at a cost of $92,108.97. It was dedicated on August 3, 1921, as a memorial to the 57 men from Dale County who lost their lives in World War I. Engineers were Mitcham, Keller, Smith and Land. County officials were Windham, Sessions, Roberts, Ziglar, Mullins and Archer. In 1977, through the efforts of the Dale County Historical Society, the Veterans Memorial Bridge was placed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage by the Alabama Historical Commission." -Historic Chattahoochee Commission and the Dale County Historical Society marker, 1979.

The stone piece sits in front of the Veterans Memorial Building in Albany. The memorial consists of a slab which has written the following on it:

"Dedicated by the citizens of Albany to its World War Veterans - 1926 - Twenty Nine of our boys served under our flag." In front of that is a stone basin. On top of the piece is a bas relief of a wreath.

This memorial, sculpted by Karl F. Lang, honors the veterans of the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War I.  A Civil War soldier faces west, leaning on the barrel of his rifle.  Facing south is a World War I doughboy with an upraised hand.  On the east is a Spanish-American War sailor.  To the north is a figure without a uniform, except for an ammunition belt, with an arrow at his feet.

On a concrete base, this silicone bronze flagpole was erected by Downing Studios in 1992 and dedicated on May 11, 1993- It was com missioned by local Vietnam veteran Dr. Barry Booth in memory of all who have served in the military.

Dedicated, November 11, 2017

The James H. Schooley Post #130 of the American Legion in partnership with the City of Zillah and community members joined together to construct a Veterans Memorial next to the historic Teapot Gas Station Memorial Park in Zillah. This memorial will be a permanent place to give thanks to local area veterans who have served this country with honor and distinction. The City of Zillah committed $82,000 plus donating the 150’ by 40’ plot of land towards the project and the remainder of the funding was raised through private donations, grants and in-kind trade labor. The memorial features a walking path with 21 concrete sentinels with brick holders mounted on the front, alongside a flag for each branch of the military. The path also leads to a central plaza with a Battlefield Cross”.  The area also features  a centralized American Flag.  The entrance to the park also features the newly restored World War 1 Memorial Monument which stood for decades in front of the Orchardvale School. The school building had two more occupants following districts consolidation. First it became Post #130’s home when membership jumped following World War 2 and then the Grange Hall.

In Veterans Memorial Park, a memorial wall lists the names of fallen servicemembers from World War 1 to the present day. A bronze statue called "Battlefield Cross" stands in front of the wall, and can be seen in the picture gallery. It depicts a servicemember's helmet, rifle, and boots.
