"Erected and dedicated in grateful recognition of their services to the men from North Providence who entered the service of their country to fight in the world war and who pledged their lives to the cause of world wide liberty."

The granite Northborough World War I Memorial has a central bronze relief sculpture featuring five marching doughboys. The first and last soldiers are holding rifles on their right shoulders. The three central soldiers are carrying flags. On either side of the relief are honor rolls with the names of Northborough citizens who served during World War I. On top of the monument is a bronze sculpture of an eagle with its wings spread. The monument was dedicated on October 12, 1932.

On a granite wall with a pediment are placed three metal honor roll plaques. On them are listed the men of Rockdale Village who served in WWI. It was erected here in about 1970.

On this grassy median between the highway and city streets are four gray granite memorial
monuments dedicated to area residents who served in World War 1, World War 2, Korea and
Vietnam. The two center monuments have a bronze plaque on both sides.
The original World War 1 monument was moved to this location, restored, joined by a World
War 2 monument and rededicated on January 1,1949. The original location is thought to have
been at the junction Church St. and State St., next to the Public Library and across the street
from the Post Office, on what was a grassy triangle. See vintage photo in gallery.

Text on the Main St. side of the monument reads:

Followed by the names of 4 men “Who Made The Supreme Sacrifice” and 82 men and 1 woman
who served honorably in The War To End All Wars” and returned home.

The text on the West St. side contains the same heading which is followed by the names of 3
men “Who Made The Supreme Sacrifice” and 83 men who served honorably in "The War To End

This is a German artillery piece captured in WWI and mounted on a granite and limestone base. It was presented by Norwood Post No. 70 of the American legion.

The Nutley Memorial Parkway was laid out and dedicated to honor the men and women of Nutley who served in World War I. On Armistice Day 1935, a memorial tablet to Dr. George B. Philhower was erected on the Parkway to honor the doctor who was its main advocate.

A simple flag pole memorial in Oak Hill Memorial Park honoring San Jose WWI veterans.

Erected by the citizens of Oak Park and River Forest, Illinois in honor of the men of this community who took part in the World War, 1914-1918." It depicts a US pilot, a soldier & a sailor in front of a figure of Columbia sheathing her sword. Inscribed with the names of 2,446 veterans from Oak Park, 56 of whom were killed in WWI.

Actually, the "public subscription" efforts tallied $52,206.69, but the effort, spearheaded by a committee, started fundraising efforts as early as 1921, so the investment earnings on the fund topped out at $59,267.46, leaving the Park District of Oak Park with a trust fund of $6,693. 83 to be used for maintenance and cleaning.

 Renovation began in July 2009. Initially, it was expected to cost more than $240,000, but another $79,400 was added when inspectors in October 2009 found the foundation also was decaying. The final renovation cost was $326,400.

The Library was given to the town of Rumson in 1920 by the Meeker family as a Memorial to their son, William Henry Meeker who died in an aviation training accident as a member of the Lafayette Escadrilles.

This memorial, in Veterans Memorial Park, was dedicated in 1926 and has a small plaque in front that reads:

The Odebolt Memorial and park area were donated to the City of Odebolt by bankers. Construction work began in 1916; the Memorial was dedicated on Armistice Day 1921.

At camps held around the country during World War I, the U.S. Army quickly trained the officers it needed to grow from a small defensive force into one of millions, ready to step onto the world stage. Fort Snelling hosted two such camps in 1917: one between May 11 and August 15 and another between August 28 and November 27.

Ogden World War I Doughboy Memorial

The Ogden World War I Doughboy is located in the Veterans Section of the Ogden City Cemetery and was sculpted by American sculptor Gilbert P. Risvold.  It was dedicated in the 1920s at an old American Legion Post and was moved to its current location after World War II.  After many years of neglect and vandalism, the statue was restored and rededicated on November 10, 2018, in honor of the centennial of the end of World War I.  Of interesting note: the statue has become a local legend among the youth of the Ogden community -- legend has it that if you drive around the statue at midnight, its head will turn to follow you!

With the original County War Memorial in the background, in front of the Courthouse, this new Fallen Soldiers Memorial Monument was placed on the North lawn of the Courthouse Square. It’s granite cenotaphs feature the names of Ogle County residents who were lost in World War 1 and follows with the names from World War 2, Korean War, Vietnam War and the Iraq & Afghanistan War On Terror. Along with the traditional kneeling soldier sculpture, there are paving bricks dedicated to Ogle County military veterans from all wars and those with Peace Time/Cold War service.

White marble stairs which lead up to the main part of the monument. At the top of the stairs is the dominating feature of the installation. Taft’s oversized classical female figure stands with her arms outstretched, clutching a laurel wreath in each hand. Behind her is an exedra. The exedra extends around the installation and to either side of the female sculpture are built-in benches. Above the benches are bronze plaques honoring veterans of the Civil War and the Spanish-American War, above the individual war plaques is bronze plating that reads, “Ogle County Honors Her Sons.” Flanking the dominant sculpture are two soldiers atop pedestals, one facing north and the other facing south. Taft's soldiers were cut from marble obtained in the U.S. state of Georgia. The Soldiers’ Monument was constructed, on the approval of the Ogle County Board in 1916, for no more than $21,00.
