Fred McLeod was the first soldier from Schuyler County killed in WWI

The Fredericksburg Area War Memorial sits on an island flanked by Liberty, Barton and George streets in historic Fredericksburg, VA. Ten years in the making and built by the Fredericksburg Area Veterans Council, it was dedicated on Sept. 13, 2008. Two months later, on Nov. 8, it was officially turned over to the city of Fredericksburg.

There are 6 granite slabs arranged in a semi-circle with a granite capstone and frieze that bears the words OUR FALLEN HEROES in bronze letters. The names of 400+ veterans from Caroline, King George, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties, and Fredericksburg, who died in service are inscribed on separate panels representing World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Global War On Terror (Iraq and Afghanistan). The names are suitable for tracing similar to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. This structure was designed and donated by the Potomac Region Veterans Council. A Walk of Honor, which leads to it on either side, is paved with inscribed bricks bearing the names of soldiers not eligible for inclusion on the memorial.

Also included on site is a Navy anti-aircraft gun and existing flagpole with a plaque bearing a Roll of Honor to those who served in World War I.

Unveiled May 21, 1919,  this soldiers monument was erected in Fairburn (Campbell County), in the middle of West Broad Street, to honor those who had died in World War I. The monument was moved to the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in 1967.  

In 1931, Campbell County was absorbed into Douglas and Fulton Counties.  Fairburn became part of Fulton County.  

The inscription around the globe at the top of the obelisk reads “ Their All For Democracy and Freedom of the World”

“Erected by the College Park Womans Club with the Loyal Cooperation of College Park and its Citizens - 1921”

On the reverse of the granite memorial is a listing of names - “Complete Roster of College Park Boys who Served in the World War - 1917 - 1919”. Four names have been added to the base below the bronze tinted listing.

The unveiling occured Feb. 19, 1922. Several hundred people attended. An invocation, prayer, dedication, and benediction were given. “Eight small boys and girls, relatives of the four dead heroes, removed the veil”, the Georgia Military Academy band played, and a former soldier laid a wreath “at the foot of the bronze tablet as a tribute to his fallen comrades.” Atlanta Constitution, Feb. 20, 1922, p. 5.

This monument, erected in December 1918, is dedicated to the men who trained at Camp Funston during World War I. Between the fall of 1917 and November 1918, approximately 50,000 soldiers received their basic training at this camp. These soldiers formed the 10th, 89th, and part of the 92nd Division. General Leonard Wood, commander of this camp, ordered the construction of this stone monument as a remembrance and tribute to their service and sacrifice.

This is a granite monument honoring Gaetano Del Giudice, a World War I veteran, a founder of the American Legion, and musician.

The thick stone is very roughly hewn into a square with a rounded top edge and is balanced on a similarly finished rectangular base. A just-out-of-round circle is carved about an inch deep into the monolith face. Inside and near the top of the circle is engraved with the outline of a French Horn and the text:

"A landscaped garden on the history center grounds, with 24 Georgia granite pillars.  This garden pays tribute to all veterans of the United States Armed Forces for preserving the gift of freedom.”  

Two curving white granite benches flank a low granite wall. On the wall is a bronze plaque flanked by carved relief wreaths. The plaque has a relief of Col. Frederick W. Galbraith, first National Commander of the American legion, and two soldiers, a sailor and a nurse. On the ends of the benches are bronze American legion em­blems. The memorial was sculpted by Clement John Barnhorn (1857-1935) and was dedicated in 1923 to honor those who served in World War I.

A BRONZE PLAQUE IS MOUNTED ON A BOULDER IN THE VILLAGE SQUARE OF CLYDE, NEW YORK. IT IS THE ROLL OF HONOR OF THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO DIED IN WW1. THERE IS A FLAG POLE WITH A SYMBOLIC CEMETERY OF MULTIPLE SMALL WHITE CROSSES DECORATED WITH AMERICAN FLAGS AND RED GERANIUMS FROM THIS AGRICULTURAL HAMELT.
