Logistics


Meeting Location:  The Upper Midwest Regional Meeting is being held at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library (PMML).  The Pritzker Military Museum & Library is located at 104 S. Michigan Ave., across from Millennium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago. There are nearby CTA subways and elevated lines, CTA bus lines (on Michigan Ave. and State St.), and Metra stations.

Lodging:  The City of Chicago has many hotels, at varying rates.  The PMML does not have any arrangements for discounted pricing at surrounding hotels.  Our suggestion is to investigate rates on Groupon, Living Social, Travelzoo, and Airbnb.  We have learned there is a large convention with 9,400 attendees, so please make your reservations soon.

Parking:  The closest garages to the Museum & Library are the Millennium Park Garage, Grant Park North Garage, and Grant Park South Garage. Ask the Library Assistant on the main level for a validation.

Meeting Time:  The Upper Midwest Regional Meeting is scheduled to begin promptly at 1:00pm.  We ask all presenters to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting.  This meeting is being recorded and will be livestreamed for those who wish to participate remotely.  Those participants will have an opportunity to submit questions for the presenters using a “chat” feature. 

Meeting format:  This meeting will be moderated by Susan Mennenga, WWI Project Manager.  Susan will introduce each speaker, and monitor the questions submitted from those participating via livestream. Note:  Each state presentation  is allocated approximately 20 minutes for the entire presentation which includes questions from the audiences. 

Meeting Preparation

Biography:  Please submit a short bio to Susan Mennenga, at smennenga@pritzkermilitary.org for each presenter for introductions at the podium.  In the biography, please include your contact information.  The attendees request a contact sheet for the presenters to follow-up with questions.   

Power point slides:  Template Slides have been developed for uniformity. 

Slide 1:  State Name and names of presenters
Slide 2:  Why is the WWI Centennial important to you and your state?
Slide 3:  Origin of your Centennial Organization-are you a Commission through legislative resolution?, a recognized committee through a gubernatorial proclamation?, or a grass roots committee?  You may speak to this slide or you can add content
Slide 4:  Overview of commemorative events and activities in the planning stages for 2017-2018
Slide 5:  Website, Facebook, Twitter-Does your state commemorative body have a website and Facebook page?  If so, please post the URL for the website and the name of the Facebook page.  Are your website and Facebook pages in the early stages of development?  Please share this information as other states are working on their website and social media presence, too.
Slide 6:  Highlight significant places or people specific to WWI in your state, e.g. museums, memorials, authors, libraries etc.

Important:  Please submit your completed slides to smennenga@pritzkermilitary.org by noon CST on September 9^th.  All the state slides will be assembled into one large powerpoint presentation by the PMML Technology Department. 


Preparation Call

You are invited to participate in an Upper Midwest Regional Meeting prep call on Wednesday, September 7^th at 1:00 EST.  Joining the call is the WWI Centennial State Outreach Project Manager, Andrew McGreal and Susan Mennenga to answer any questions pertaining to the meeting.

A reservation has been made under World War I.  Illinois WWI Centennial Committee member, Jeanne Hammacher is the hostess for the dinner.

6:00 pm                                                As a guest of the partnership between the WWI Centennial Commission and the Pritzker Military Museum & Library, you are invited to a reception and a book talk from author Nimrod Thompson Frazer who will discuss the recently released 3rd edition of: 

"Send the Alabamians: World War I Fighters in the Rainbow Division"
