Hoosiers at War Exhibition

The Indiana State Library's "Hoosiers at War" exhibition showcases publications, correspondence, diaries, photographs, and other materials detailing the experiences of Hoosiers during World War I, both at home and abroad.

Over 150,000 people from Indiana answered the call to serve when the United States entered the Great War on April 6, 2017. The Indiana State Library's "Hoosiers at War" exhibition is free and open to the public. Exhibition cases include federal documents about the United States' entry into the Great War; pamphlets and research in regard to the influenza epidemic, home front contributions, including sewing and war bond drives; correspondence from servicemen, American and French propaganda posters, a digitized 16mm film of the "Welcome Home" celebration in downtown Indianapolis, and personal memorabilia from the collections of Harold Wilson Scott, 2nd Liet., Rainbow Division, and Florence J. Martin, Chief Nurse, Lilly Base Hospital 32 in Contrexeville, France.

There was also a special reception on Monday, November 20, 2017 where the Indiana State Library presented the artifacts of every day Hoosier heroes from the Great War. Light refreshments were also served to the attendees.
