John Gudinas served in World War I in the United States Army.  The enlistment was April 28, 1918, and the service was completed October 15, 1918.

John Gudinas was born in Raguva, Panevezys, Lithuania, in 1890.

He left Russian Poland in 1907 at the age of 17, to join his uncle, Anthony Gudinas in Rochester, NY. Anthony Gudinas had emigrated from Suwalki, Poland, in 1898 and was living at 136 Weyl Street. Before the war, John was employed as a tailor by George Harris Company on Miller Street.

John Gudinas entered the service at Rochester, NY,  April 28, 1918,  at the age of 27 years. He listed his uncle, Anthony Gudinas, as next of kin.

As a Private, he was assigned to Company 12, 153rd Depot Brigade, training at Camp Dix, Wrightstown, NJ. On May 11, 1918, he was transferred to Company L, 310th Infantry and  embarked overseas on May 20, 1918. Pvt. Gudinas engaged in action at Thiaucourt and Champigneulle. He was killed in action, October 15, 1918, at Bois des Loges. He lies buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France.  The John Gudinas Post,  American Legion,  Rochester, N. Y.,  was named in his honor.
