Commission inks partnership with Belgium
The U.S. World War One Centennial Commission signed a partnership of mutual support last week with the Federal Government of  Belgium regarding the commemoration of the Centennial of World War One. The agreement calls for sharing of experience, knowledge, and technical means, as the U.S. and Belgium prepare for the commemoration of the centennial of American intervention in World War One. Commission meets at Dawn Patrol in Dayton
On September 30, the U.S. World War One Centennial Commission held its quarterly meeting at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio , coinciding with the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous Air Show, a showcase of World War One-era military aircraft, replicas, and reenactors, along with the Annual Conference of the League of WWI Aviation Historians. Read more about the meeting here. Aircraft participating at the event included the World War One-era Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” biplane flown by the Friends of Jenny. The group is seeking to reconstruct the WW1 DH4 Liberty Plane.
Show booth carries the WW1 Centennial message
A growing team of Commission staff and volunteers is taking the World War One Centennial message to trade shows and other events across the nation to spread the word about the Centennial of World War One. The purpose of display booth outreach is to create awareness about the World War One Centennial Commission’s efforts to honor and memorialize the 4.7 million who served and the 116,516 who gave their for the nation during the war. Theresa Sims, Director of Strategic Relations for the World War One Centennial Commission, talks about the effort so far, and the connections being made via the booth at many events.
Advisors get National WW1 Memorial update
Joe Weishaar, the designer and architect-in-training who created the landscape design-concept for the National World War One Memorial at Pershing Park, gave an update brief to several of the Special Advisors and Diplomatic Advisors to the World War One Centennial Commission on Monday, September 26. Notable attendees at the event were Senator John W. Warner, member of the Board of Special Advisors to the Commission; and Senator Carol Moseley Braun, and Ambassador Louise V. Oliver, members of the Diplomatic Advisory Board to the Commission.
