Throughout the 19th and 20th Centuries, members and veterans of the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force formed many professional and fraternal organizations related to their service, the ships (and later, aircraft) on which they served, and the battlefields and theaters of action to which their service took them. Civilians also created organizations to support robust armed forces that could protect the nation's sovereignty and prosperity.
