WhilemanyoftheCommissionseducationalprogramswillbeavailabletothecountryatlargeitsparticularfocuswillbeonstudentsingrades6-12theso-calledGenerationZwhowerebornbeginninginthelate1990s.TheCommissionexpectstosupplementtraditionalclassroommaterialswithvirtualclassroommaterialsandotherInternet-drivenmediatoreachaswideanaudienceaspossible.ByworkingwitheducatorsacrossthecountrytheCommissionsgoalistoreachover10millionstudentsbytheconclusionoftheCentennialperiod.NATIONALEDUCATIONALINITIATIVESDIGITALLEARNINGTheCommissionhaspartneredwithAEHistoryChanneltodevelopanationaleducationalprogrammingoutreachforstudentsingrades6-12.Muchofthiscontentwillbedeliveredtoclassroomsviaelectronicformat.ThecurriculumwillincludeoriginalprogrammingtobebroadcastnationwidestartinginJune2014withshorter-lengthprogramsbroadcastontheHistoryChannelClassroom.ThecurriculumresourcesandteachersguidesaccompanyingAEprogramswillbedistributedtoover600000teachersthroughtheHISTORYe-mailnewsletters.AsatoolforengagingmiddleschoolandhighschoolteacherstheCommissionproposestosponsoraWWIlessonplancontestforteacherscreatingadirectlinktotheCommonCorerequirementsandothercurriculumstandards.ThisprogramwouldbemanagedbyavolunteercommitteecomposedofeducatorsandWWIhistoriansfromacrossthecountry.Asanadditionalopportunityforengagingstudentsingrades6-12theCommissionproposestosponsoranationalessaycontest.DuringeachyearoftheCentennialstudentsfromacrossthecountrywouldbegivenaspecificWWI-themedtopiconwhichtowriteashortessay.ThiscontestwouldbesimilarlymanagedbyavolunteercommitteeofeducatorsandWWIhistoriansfromacrossthecountry.WorkingwithAEHistoryChannelandothernationalpartnerstheCommissionplanstodevelopadigitallearningprogramthatwouldcreateavirtualclassroomenvironmentinwhichteachersatmuseumsandothervenuescanuseweb-basedapplicationstoreachschoolsandstudentsacrossthecountry.
