50th Aero squadron grp portraitFour of the eight Medals of Honor won by Airman in WW1 were awarded to DH4 pilots and observers. "The Liberty Plane" is the first American war plane and we have located the last known DH4 air frame in N. America. This airplane, when rebuilt, will be the first flying original American military DH-4, celebrating the memory of Air Service veterans who served so long ago. The 100th anniversary of America's entry into the Great War, WW1 will commence in 2017. The War to end all wars was a 'modern' affair, utilizing the latest technology in warfare: The aeroplane. When the United States  committed to enter the war it had just 55 serviceable airplanes. Congress made the largest appropriation in the history of the United States, $640,000,000 to build an entire air force, quickly. Please Help Save Liberty - Donate Today!

Two significant airplanes were developed and produced in America during WW1. The Curtiss JN4 "Jenny", to train pilots, and the  de Havilland DH-4 "Liberty Plane" to go to War. Both changed the face of aviation forever.

The War Plane:

The DH-4 is an aviation history icon. It is the very first aircraft, made in America, that took us to War in Europe, would later win the nation's first Transcontinental Air Race and establish the first US Air Mail transcontinental routes. The DH-4, with its 400 hp Liberty engine became the plane of choice to such greats as "the Lone Eagle" Charles Lindbergh.

These important milestones in both American and Aviation History will be brought back to life with the restoration of the DH4 to airworthy status. It's a huge job, placed in the hands of an experienced and dedicated team. But we can't do this without you!
